I've spent the past week or so using up wood left over from my first 2 mandolins.  Here's my progress so far.
I decided to do Harlan #3 with side-binding.  I spent a while laminating and scraping the binding for body, peghead, and fingerboard.
I've spent the past few days working on the top.  Here it is so far.
I wasn't entirely happy with the scroll on #1 or #2, so I've spent a lot of time and effort trying to make this one better.
The top is almost done.  (I hate cutting F-holes - I'm a nervous wreck when I'm done!!)
I got the top glued to the rim over Christmas weekend.
The neck and I spent some quality time together today.
Here's the bound peghead (sidebound)
I'm blearly-eyed from 'riding' the Dremel for the past 2 hours!  This one is done in abalone.
Here's the peghead with the inlay all glued and filled.
It's starting to look like a mandolin.  The neck and fingerboard are just dry fit at this point.  #3 has the abalone fern and abalone dots in a 12" radius fingerboard.
Birth of a mandolin back.
Getting real close!
Everyone in my house decided they liked the darker stain better.
